Earthquake

Vrissa was a picturesque village of 800 inhabitants in the south of Lesvos Island, the mythical village of Briseis of Achilles in the Iliad.
On Monday June 12, at noon, in a rare phenomenon, an unexpected 6.3 Richter earthquake struck the village with incredible fury, as though it chose it on the map. Within just two minutes, the beautiful village was flattened and peace was forever lost. Most buildings collapsed. Many people who had to run out of their crumpling homes were injured, fortunately only one victim was mourned. The village, full of ruins, dust and broken buildings was evacuated, and the residents found temporary shelter in tents, friends or family or hotels which opened up to help.

But the hardest part is now. 8 out of 10 homes are considered uninhabitable. Hundreds of people already struck by the Greek crisis, on an island having faced the refugee crisis, need to rebuild their homes. To rebuild their lives.

Anything you can spare can make a difference.
